Tickets are $15, and artwork will be in a silent auction; the Minnie Pearl Cancer Foundation will use all proceeds to assist cancer patients.

Easter Sunday Evening

I've been reading a lot lately (again); I get obsessed with books sometimes and absolutely CANNOT put them down until there are no more words left to read. My current obsession is "Eat, Pray, Love" by Elizabeth Gilbert. I'm about half- way through and have gotten a lot out of it. A moment ago, what I was reading made the point that you cannot live your life as a monument to lost relationships and past mistakes. Well, I suppose you could, but it would be a miserable existence. I waste so much time and energy in useless suffering (worry). I make it this complicated- I borrow trouble. Why do I forget freedom can be so simple as asking for grace and letting go?

the Lost Boys

In 1987, a civil war drove an estimated 20,000 young boys from their families and villages in South Sudan. Most were six or seven years old. Wandering for years, they walked more than a thousand miles, half of them dying before reaching a Kenyan refugee camp. The survivors of this tragic exodus became known as the Lost Boys of Sudan. There are approximately 150 Lost Boys residing in the Nashville area.

The Lost Boys Foundation of Nashville was created in the fall of 2004 by photographer Jack Spencer and a small group of volunteers, after witnessing first hand the tragic circumstances many of the young men still face in the Nashville community.

The Foundation's mission is to the reunification and living enhancement of the Lost Boys of Nashville by working with the Lost Boys and their leadership to create and fund a community complex. In order to make this happen the Foundation is hosting a series of fundraising events. The proceeds will go to the Foundation, whose commitment is to the reunification and living enhancement of the Lost Boys of Sudan who have made Nashville their home.

Sweet Spring Brings the Color Back to Life

I love vivid color so, so, so much. Alot that is depressing to me during winter has to do with that, or, the lack of color. Dead plants, gray skies, long dark nights, the blah- ness of it gets over whelming. Finally, some new leaves are appearing and the sun is still shining when I leave work! What interested me about the photos above are the color similarities. The top one is from a hike with Aka, and the bottom is me "modelling" new Spring pieces for a Fire Finch ad. Totally separate occasions, but identical colors! The colors of the bag and clothes are so truly drawn from the beauty of the mossy rocks and foliage. Being an outdoors lover who also adores fashion, it's fun to see them relate. Can't wait for more!

Eastern Block is playing at the Rutledge on March 19th. I love seeing them live, and the Rutledge is one of (in my humble opinion) one of the best venues in town. Plus they have the hot, uber-sexy Nicki Ahlstrom bartending. Can't beat that!
Oh, and don't you think the flyer is fab? You'll never guess who made it! *wink *

Pre- Spring Cleaning

We are now only ten days away from the vernal equinox- the first day of spring. Typically at this time of year people do lots of yard/ housework, thus the term "spring cleaning". Today I got a jump start. Spring hasn't even officially started, and I 've already washed the cats, boxed them up, and put them in the attic!
Ha, of course, I kid, I kid.
Unfortunately though, I have actually laundered poor Maggie before. She was accidentally tumble dried for a brief period, but I was lucky enough to realize what I had done before she got hurt! When I let her out she glared at me, with a very staticky, dishevelled hair- do above her angry eyes. I promised her, "From now on I will always check inside the dryer before starting it!" I am happy to report: Maggie is a gentle soul and has not held a grudge.

Return of the Fearless Tornado

I'm ready for Spring!!!! Oh I can't wait for warm sunny days! Today was an excellent day for adventures outside: 70 degrees, sunny, no work = perfect.
I recently checked out a great library book called "60 Hikes Within 60 Miles~ Nashville" by Johnny Molloy, figuring that there have got to be plenty of trails close by that would be a nice change from the usual loop at Percy Warner Park. I WAS RIGHT :) There are plenty of trails I've never been to or even heard of; now my mission is to explore them all! This morning, Aka (the fearless tornado), Maggie (the human friend), Coco (the human's doggie friend), and I drove east to Long Hunter State Park and hiked the Volunteer Trail/ Day Loop. It's a 4 mile loop next to Percy Priest Lake. I was happily surprised by the sparkling views and would certainly recommend putting this on your To Do List!

Flight Lesson and the Morphing Trend

Sooo, last night was the "First Saturday" Downtown Gallery Event. It was packed! For an early March night, the weather was great and apparently everyone was ready to get out in it. A couple galleries still had up the same work as last month- which was kind of a let down. What I most appreciated were Samuel Dunson's paintings at TAG and the musical performance by "Carrie Nation" at Downtown Presbyterian. The painting above is one of Mr. Dunson's; it's a 32" x 44" titled "Flight Lesson". It's a beautifully quiet change from the recent trend of grotesque morphing creatures. What's up with all the girls morphing into goats, dogs into men, human nipples on barnyard animals, and so on? Honestly- why is that imagery SO popular right now?
