Coming Up Quickly

It's almost May- can you believe it??? The upcoming month brings another lively First Saturday in the Downtown Arts District on May 3rd. Twist Gallery will be featuring drawings by Brady Haston. One of my favorite local artists, Danielle Duer, will be in her studio- Fov. Dangenart, Estel, Tinney + Cannon, the Rymer, among others are all participants in the event. Plenty of opportunities to see plenty on new art, and that's NEVER a bad thing;)

Details, Details

I'm working out the final stuff (need to have liability insurance started) so that I can move into my new studio space !!! Hopefully everything will be worked out by next week. I can't wait to get in there!
The new studio is located on the 3rd floor of Downtown Presbyterian Church in Nashville (at the corner of Church & 5th Ave ). I am happy to be a part of a group of other artists (Beth Gilmore, Tom Wills, Richard Feaster, Tascha French) with studios there. The room is semi - unfinished (no heat/ A.C.), but it is spacious and well lit. I CANNOT WAIT!

At the Frist, As I Type

Angelo Filomeno's "paintings" are featured in the contemporary gallery. Why "paintings"? In this case the "paint" is embroidery thread (often with crystal, onyx, garnet, etc intertwined) and the "canvas" is silk stretched like a traditional canvas. They are unlike anything else I've seen; photos do not do them justice. They are unbelievably intricate, glistening pieces done on a grand scale -most are 7- 8 feet tall/wide. You really must go! The Frist Center has been offering free admission days; I will post a list of which days are coming up soon, so everyone can check out the inspiring goodness!
Oh, and equally inspiring is the main gallery's current show, "Monet to Dali: Modern Masters from the Cleveland Museum of Art". There are lovely pieces by Rodin, Picasso, Max Ernst, Van Gogh, Modigliani, Monet, and Dali (of course) among others. Spring is definitely a great time to take advantage of our local art museum; the current shows only hang till June 1st!

As Promised...

...Pics of the completed window display for Fire Finch in Hillsboro Village. The animals and leaves are cardboard with many layers of tissue paper and Mod Podge.

Chuck E. Cheese

I totally forgot how much fun Chuck E. Cheese is! My eyes have been re-opened recently as I've gone with the Jone's a couple times- how did I ever forget?!? Skee- ball, racing games, basketball, pizza, and even a photo booth that prints your photo on a plastic "ID" card. WHAT! Yes, all that and more.
Luke and I got several different ID cards made that were super cute, but I like the photos of us making them even better!

A little peak

The past couple days I've been a decoupaging machine! I'm making these adorable animals out of cardboard, mod podge, and tissue paper. This animal family is made up of a giraffe, an elephant and a tiger; it will be hanging in the window of the Village Fire Finch for the month of April. Ch Ch Check it out.
P.S. Pics of the complete window display coming soon!

Fun Pics

Ok, here are a couple fun photos from Fusion 08. I went with my lovely girlfriends, Christin and Liz. We had some drinks, sampled some food from Southern Spoon (fried bananas :), checked out some art, watched some fashion shows ( a little underwhelming), and listened to some fantastic local music ( I met Brooke Waggonner- she seems like the kind of girl you want to hang out with). One of my watercolor birds -the one I'm next to in the black and white pic- sold in the auction and 100% of the purchase price went to the Minnie Pearl Cancer Foundation! Yay!
