After working in the isolation/ distraction of my house since graduating from college, I feel fortunate to now be part of a community of artists in the Downtown Presbyterian Church studio spaces. I 'm happy to announce: I have a new studio neighbor, Elizabeth Streight. Liz's art is photography, which you can see on her photoblog. It's a documentary of her life, and the many people that are part of it. I enjoy the candid shots, and the celebratory feel they capture. I can't wait to watch as her work develops right next door. Haha. "Develop"- get it- that's a photography joke. Ok, I'll stop. P.S. The photos are ones she took at Monteagle mountain; Seamus, Liz, and I spent a lovely fall weekend hiking in the mountains and realxing at our friend, Tom's, cabin.

It's nice to wake up without immediately rushing into whatever the plans are for the day, and that's how it's been this morning. Ahhhh. Now if only the thunderstorm will blow over quickly...so I can go to the lake!
Everyone at my house is taking it easy today, especially Seamus. Check him out- just lounging on the living room couch. My little buddy Juliana made the pillows for me out of fabric her mom (Anna Maria Horner) designed; I love them! They just make me happy; and I love all Anna Maria's textile design for that reason. They are bright, fun, and so, just, PRETTY! It's the anti- beige!
Late this sunny Sunday afternoon I decided to take Seamus for a walk. We headed over towards Fort Negley, which is one of my favorite nearby walking destinations. We casually walked, or, I walked and Seamus pulled like a Budweiser Clydesdale.
The grassy area in the middle of the fort is my favorite part; surrounding it are old stone walls bordered with wooden boardwalks. As we walked into the fort I looked around for other dogs frolicking with their humans or families taking in the Nashville history- the usual. I didn't see anyone though, and then I thought it "it would be fun to run through the grass". Looking up, I took one more glance around, when I noticed something white on a boardwalk across the way. Wooden railings along the walkway kept it kind of hidden...so I quietly got closer... and realized: this is a naked man!
Yes. It's true; a nude man lay on the ground disrupting my leisurely stroll. Seamus and I sprinted back to road in what had to have been record time. When I caught my breath I called the police; after holding for several minutes I got through to a helpful lady who seemed almost as shocked as me. Since I'd split the scene so quickly, I didn't have a detailed description, but I certainly hope he was found and will never do that again.
The moral of the story is twofold. Men: if you sunbathe sans clothing around me I may call the cops. Women: always be aware of your surroundings. Now, I'm not easily frightened, but this was a startling reminder that even if you're in a public place, mid- day, you never know what might happen. Take it from a dog- walking woman who just happened upon a nude stranger.
Logging in, I noticed my last post was on the 11th! Wow. It feels like barely a weeks gone by. It's been a busy past couple of weeks - a good busy. Sometimes I have busy weeks, and when they're over I can't remember exactly what it was I did that made things so busy. Disappointing. If I'm worn out, I'd like to have something to show for it!
Well, like I said, this was a good couple of weeks: I had dinners with friends that I love, planted flowers and veggies in the garden, continued triathlon training, spent time with Jon, worked -of course, and finished setting up my new studio. Thanks to the guys in Eastern Block (and Craig's List)- I now have a comfy couch in my studio! It was the final element necessary to make it the perfect work space. That implies I can't work without a couch, which implies all kinds of laziness I guess. Whatev. I like to sit in comfort to draw, and my painting partners gotta have a place to chill!
Today I started the first painting since moving into the new space :)
