I'm thrilled to announce my upcoming show at the Village Community Gallery in Old Hickory. It's no secret that I LOVE ANIMALS, and thus am having a show dedicated to them:

percentage of sales will benefit animals in need in the Old Hickory Village area.

Hillsboro Village October Art Walk

 The Hillsboro Village Oktoberfest Art Walk last night was lovely. Bosco's Brewing Company & Restaurant invited me to be their featured artist for the event. Bosco's got very festive for the evening, and even brought in a band!

 

I'm ready for the weekend now; in the morning I'll be on a plane to Chicago and I'm already bursting with excitement! There will be plenty of awesomeness happening around Nashville though, too. It's still "Artober" which means a full calendar of creative events. Last weekend I worked with an Artober event, the Handmade & Bound Nashville Book Arts festival, welcoming families and encouraging kids of all ages to to get there hands dirty with sidewalk chalk. 

Here's to another wonder- full weekend! 

Octoberfest Art Walk!

I'm preparing new pieces for the next Hillsboro Village Art Walk. I'll have a booth set up in front of Boscos from 5-8pm on Thursday Oct 6. Come out- enjoy Octoberfest and art in the Village!
I'll have brand new small sketches and illustration-style paintings of a whole zoo of animals, with prices ranging from $20 -$75.

Before and After

 Custom pet portrait orders are keeping me happily busy these days! The fundraising Christmas special for East C.A.N. ends tonight at midnight, although afterwards I will still take orders through December 20 to be done by Christmas eve. The proceeds for those will benefit the Shearer pups- I'm thinking, new dog bed?

An order came in earlier this week that I really was excited to see was of these two cuties, Bailey and Shorty. I don't know Bailey's story, but I do know Shorty as an East C.A.N. rescue. I met Shorty this year in the Spring when he was but a youngster. East C.A.N. brought him to East Nasty as one of the adoptable dogs of the week. Aka was with me that night and Shorty wanted her attention so badly; he ran alongside her during parts of the run, always looking over at her to see if she noticed- she didn't. But I did! He had the biggest personality and when I saw him months later -again as an East C.A.N.adoptable at East Nasty- he had grown into a big, some might think intimidating, guy. Apparently he even prevented a lawn mower theft from his yard. When I sat down next to him he was still such a big baby, waiting to be loved- he climbed in my lap! Even though there is no more room in the Shearer Inn I looked him up on the rescue's website that night; there is just something special about him. Seeing him in a forever home, with a family that loves him so much they're getting his portrait made, is just perfection.

Hillsboro Village Art Walk

On the first Thursday of every month, Hillsboro Village hosts an art walk. Shops are open late, local artists are featured, and a good time is had by all.

I set up 4 paintings, warmed myself by drinking wine, and chatted with folks in the neighborhood for the evening. Hillsboro Village is one of my favorite areas in Nashville. I like the "mix". Its young, middle, and old. It's artists, college students, musicians, and an array of lots more which keeps it from being overrun by any one group of people (hipsters, *ahem*). The baristas are so friendly and I do love Bongo Java coffee, so I think I'd say Fido is my #1 pick in the Village.

I have to say Rodney Mitchell and his salon full of lovely guys and gals will keep you looking gorgeous, so they are a must visit, too! Very recently I worked on changing out their window display. This time the new decorations are inside (both windows, as well as throughout the store) and outside (lights and ornaments). Hope you like it!

Pre-Opening Pics

My solo show of paintings opened on the evening of December 5th, to a chilly but successful reception. This show is particularly exciting to me because I was able to alter the gallery space a little and really create an environment specific to my work. Employing a technique I frequently use in my work, I painted the windows and then added paint "frames" to surround select pieces. The floor is painted a vibrant bubblegum pink to heighten and confirm the boldly feminine nature of my work. This show will hang until the end of December. Please visit it during Twist's open hours or contact me and I will happily arrange a viewing time.

"7 Questions" to Open December 5th

The opening reception for my solo show at Twist 58 Gallery* is set for December 5th from 6- 9:00pm. This event is free and open to the public; please be invited!

"7 Questions"
I hope to reflect ideas through my work. What I have been creating has stemmed from hundreds of questions flying around in my head. Some of these questions are:
What is meaningful?
What is superficial?
What makes me happy, and why?
What is beauty?
Why are some things that are beautiful labeled superficial?
Does beauty equal weakness in your eyes?
In exhibiting my work I am not attempting to present answers, rather hoping to reflect my questions.
My pieces are typically a mix of medias (spray paint, acrylic, colored pencil) on canvas. Most of all, I love the intensity and texture of oil paint.


* Twist 58 Gallery is located in the heart of downtown Nashville in the historic Arcade building. It is on the upper level in space 58.

Dec. 5th Save the Date

Don't forget to set aside a little time to come by the Arcade on December 5th if you live in or around Nashville. My crafty wares will be at a booth on the ground level as part of Handmade in the Arcade, the artisan and craft fair, from 1-9:00. Also, I will be hosting the opening reception of my new show at Twist Gallery 58 from 6-9:00. I'm looking forward to a full next several weeks, bringing everything to completion for the big day.
P.S. "Tiny Tim" pictured above is an example of my crafty wares. He is an original watercolor portrait that fits easily into a standard 5" x 7" frame. Take him home or give him as a gift, but either way you can have this cutie for a steal- only $20!

Extended Hours at Magpie!

Yes! In case you missed the opening but are still interested in seeing my (and Duncan's) work, I've got good news. Magpie, etc. has so far been open on Saturdays from 12- 5. Starting next week, the hard working ladies of Magpie are offering extended hours: Wednesday through Saturday from 12- 5:00.Yippppeeeee!

Small Works

These tiny bits of loveliness will be available at my show Saturday evening for $99- each. They are 6" x 8" canvases full of vivid blooms, inspired by racks and racks of flowers I saw on an NYC street a little while ago.

WoooHooooo! New Work!

These are the first three paintings completed in my glorious new studio.
I 'm so happy to finally be posting images of my new work. As I may have mentioned before, my camera is on the fritz (where did that expression come from?). Much to my chagrin, I haven't been able to photograph work as easily because of that. I would like a new camera for Christmas. *hint*hint* Any takers?
So, I'm continuing the theme/ series of female portraits. Hmm...how to explain knowing my words will fall short... these are all young women who may be trying to hide or be hidden behind something. Which one is it? Do I know who they are? I can't tell you, but maybe you will know when you see them! Stay tuned for new show announcements!
